ABOUT THE ART

Touch of Magic is an illustration by prolific Hungarian artist and illustrator Willy Pogány (1882-1955) in Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam (1859). This work is author Edward FitzGerald's adaptation of the work of a 12th-century Persian astronomer-poet Omar Khayyam. The authenticity of the poetry's original source is uncertain, but the 1942 edition asserts the work is not a translation from Persian, but "an English poem that owes its thought to Omar and its structure and sequence to the genius of FitzGerald."
